I know I'm not the only one....

I was completely oblivious to the fact that Third Eye Blind could be classified as a guilty pleasure until half of my friends made fun of me for driving to Milwaukee to see one of their shows two summers ago. They were even on my short list of bands I needed to see live before I die and they still hold a place on my favorite bands list. The show in Milwaukee was excellent by the way and that weekend, as a whole, was a fucking blast.

I have fond memories of driving around in my high school best friend's mini van blaring and singing along to "How's It Going To Be." But it's not the radio hits of 3EB that made me fall in love with this band, it was how effing hot Stephen Jenkins is! Ok sort of, but not really. It was songs like Motorcycle Drive By, Deep Inside Of You and Narcolepsy. Here is an EXCELLENT video of Motorcycle Drive By live in San Fran.

My second guilty pleasure, which I am fully aware of its status as such, is Mariah Carey. And I'm not talking about her new "Shake It Off" shit. I mean, that stuff is OK but what I'm really talking about songs like Emotions, Vision Of Love, Underneath the Stars and her cover of The Jackson 5's I'll Be There from the MTV Unplugged tape. Yes, I said tape. This seem like an ancient artifact for some of you, but I still rock that shit.

I even loved Mariah Carey so much that I wrote an essay on her song "Hero" in junior high. My question is, who is this new Mariah with stick straight hair, wears t-shirts as dresses and marries a former Nickelodeon star? I want the pre-looney bin Mariah back with her all natural curly hair, her old-enough-to-be-her-grandpa husband and her flannel shirts tied at the waist.

Oh shit, the 90's just flashed before my eyes...

I know this is guilty pleasures stuff, but I was just commenting to a coworker about waking up at 6:30 a.m. in college to go down to food service and eat breakfast. They would have the radio playing lowly over the sound system, and a Mariah (rhymes with "Pariah", thank you, Michael Stipe) song would come on, the one (or does she do it in every song?) where she does that dog whistle screech and you would literally stop in mid-chew to shudder.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for someone to post about their guilty pleasure of Amy Grant's "Baby Baby". Remember folks, Amy Grant has the warmest spot in hell saved for her because she sold out the Lord with that tune. Not that Amy Grant has anything to do with Felcia's post, just that song came into my head because it was the same time frame when Mariah was around.

TK-YES, Mariah Carey can sing. Mandy Moore whispers and whines and she made more shitty movies than Mariah. And don't even try to say the shittiness of Glitter equals the shittiness of all of Mandy Moore's movies.

Jez-As someone in college when Mariah came out, you probably had a better idea of what "real" good music sounded like, as opposed to me who was a mere teen. And that was not intended to be a jab at your age :)

All you other writers should just start calling me "Grandpa Jez".

I swear Felicia, you and me are musical soulmates. Even the guilty pleasures we have the same taste.
Deep inside of you, is such a high school classic for me, I love it.

Oh and Mariah, HELLO?? dreamlover, emotions, someday and always be my baby... I LOVE listening to those songs. They are brilliant pop r%b songs.

Chele-I just imagine Stephen Jenkins is singing that song to me every time I hear it!

I don't give a damn what anyone thinks, TEB should not be a guilty pleasure. Motorcycle Driveby is a great, great song. Add to that the boppiest song about meth ever written? Yeah, they get a pass.
